The Wallpaper Museum at Rixheim in the Alsace, certified as a Musée de France, will change the way you look at those rolls you think you know ! It is one of the technical museums of the Southern Alsace
and offers the chance to admire wallpaper dating back to the 18th Century right up to the present day, from traditional domino-print patterns to creations by contemporary designers.
The panoramics, which turn walls into visions of far off countries, exotic landscapes and idyllic gardens, are the stuff of dreams. Take a trip back in time to the beginning of the 19th Century, to India or North America; relive the Greek war of independence or admire the lush flora of Eldorado.
Major disruptions to the museum’s tour between 12 September and 18 November 2022.
As part of the restoration work on the central building of the Commanderie de Rixheim, the scenic wallpaper section of the museum will be closed to the public on several occasions from 12 September 2022.
The first floor exhibition “Perspectives, when the wall is dressed in architecture” will end on 11 September. It will then be taken down to make room for the next exhibition, organised by the Centre Européen d’Etude Japonaise d’Alsace, which is due to open on 18 November.
Only the large room on the ground floor presenting manufacturing techniques will not be affected by these disruptions.
